"Political Fears on African Youths"
Many African countries are blessed with oil and mineral wealth that has the potential to transform their economies. but historically, those resources have often been more of a curse than a blessing. Why should our Leaders wait until they are invited to Europe to get together to solve our problems, It doesn’t make sense.
Right from when I was a child, till date ,I hear people saying Africa is a land flowing with mild & honey yet Africans has never felt the impacts. How can we fight this curse and how can we make Africa a better place for us, people are suffering a lot in Africa today, but immigration to the west is not anymore an opportunity.
There are millions of Africans youths in Western countries, they are engage in washing dishes in restaurants, look after elderly incontinent people in the west, wash toilets. That makes the majority of 30 million who have emigrated from Africa, some are much luckier, they work in subaltern management positions in corporate America or in public institution in Europe, few are successfully with high pay and social status. Regarding of their current fate, they all share on thing in common; most of them want to return to Africa.
But there are some fears that is making them restless and hopeful because most of them have quite a petty life in the west, the Africans are constantly harassed by the Western state police, crushed by daily racism from their neighbors and strangers, economically and politically isolated, and with very little hope for a near-future improvement. Unfortunately, their dream to return home is painfully held back by deep fears like;
In the world of today, it doesn't come surprise if Africans with Philippines are the poorest diaspora in the world with also the lowest social status. Immigration is for conquering lands and resources for one's community. Look how much lands Europeans have in Africa, Look how much power the yield here, and their social status, look how much love we give to the Europeans and Americans in Africa compare to the Love Western is giving Africans, how much land do Africans have in Europe? How many big companies do they own? what is their social status as a community?. Many African today have the believe that if they don't visit or live in the western countries, they will never become a leader. which means Every African Youths are running for their challenges, Every African youths want to be in Europe and become European citizens. No one could be respected or could ever claim ownership of a land he/she has not built, no matter the number of years he/she has lived there.
Africans shouldn't be abroad without a specific strategic agenda (such as targeted business transaction or on education scholarship). We should all be busy bees building up the motherland.
Many people say negative things but there is surely a positive story. if all Africans do not come together and move this continent forward, i am afraid the continent will remain the way it is today and the Future generations will continue blaming
us more than the way we are blaming our fathers. If the Americans and Europeans all stay and didn't work hard to take their countries to greater height, No Africans will be there today none of African leaders will be keeping there loot in the western countries. Nothing good comes easy. There are lot of foreign companies in many all African countries today and they are making it, while the land owners are there in another man's land struggling for survival.
How African Leaders Can Stop The Fears.
Africa need leaders who can tackle the challenges and translate them into opportunities to archive the Africa We Want. There is no leader that didn't break promise, the Libyan case should serve as a lesson when it comes to solving African issues. Due to lack of unity, some African Leaders voted for western intervention in Libya and now the effects of that intervention are still spreading in the whole Africa countries like a cancer.
We need a strong pan-Africanist movement that can unite all continental regional blocks and are able to speak with one voice not only in regard to neo-colonialism, neo-liberalism, and imperialism, but also to straighten up some of our self-serving leaders who are keeping our continent lagging behind in development. Not any amount of aid is going to to move Africa forward, the only way for Africa to move forward is to ensure good governance, the way we manage our economy, our social life, our legal structures and institutions - that is the basic for development. We should not rely on other countries to feed our poor or treat our sick. This is the responsibilities of our governments.
It became obvious to us that we need leaders that understand that they are running their country for the benefits of every single individual. Every child in a country should be a leader responsibility. Another fears is the educational system which unfortunately is not doing well. If you an African, the more educated you are, the less chances you have of getting a job. Education is too serious to be left to the few bureaucrats in ministries of education who have no connection to the real world. this is an area where you really need a national debate between business people, education specialist, and young people to know exactly what kind of work force we need to build in Africa.
Another problem the African leaders have to face is the establishment of the pan-African trade, that challenge is immediately linked to the question of integration. Most people talk about Africa as if it is one country. Africa is not one country, Africa is 54 countries, which are not necessarily trading or communicating among themselves. It is more difficult to pass goods from East Africa to the South Africa, this is just like taking goods from Russia to West Africa it is more expensive because Africa countries use different currencies. For example, If a Nigeria decided to visit Angola for Example, there will be a long process for him to issue his visa and this will take lot of time and money. This process and logic should be cancel in Africa, We are Africans, we need to lay down the basis for free trade area and free movements across the Africa countries. We have to accept that we need each other; we need to open up our borders for free movement and free trading among Africa countries so this can end poverty in small African countries. If we do not have the economies of scale, we are unable to force the trade required; we are unable to get a good deal for our manufacturers. For Example, Africa has more than 500 million mobile users, which is more than the western countries, all African leaders get the latest Iphone mobiles and laptops but the question is, Are we really proud of that? How many mobile phones and laptops were manufactured in any African countries?
Electricity sector, Africa's need for power are gigantic. The continent has more than 600 million people who lack access to electricity, and consumption per capital is less than what's needed to keep a 50-watt light-bulb going continuously. Nothing can work fine without electricity in a country, and this is leading many to rely on very costly leased generating plants as an emergency stopgap. frequent power outages means big loose in foregone sales and damage equipment.
Many Africans today rely on expensive diesel and petrol generators to provide electricity for themselves. The reality for most Africans is that, they can not afford generators, this means that their power requirements remain unmet. To add to the burden in some African countries, the governments has also increase petroleum tariff at least four times in the past year. in West African countries stemming from the sound of generators in the background. There are numbers of issues relating to the use of generators, Firstly it's expensive and diesel is 30-40% more expensive than most other fuels and population is also a key issues. without electricity, Hospitals will not be able to function properly,reflecting to the human cost of this system. Most Local and foreign businesses can not rely on the grid and have their own generators, which is very inefficient and costly. Without electricity, Many industries that rely on petroleum products will have to shut down if they are unable to bear the high cost of productions.
Another Problem the African Leaders have to face is the Agricultural sector, agriculture persists as an important sector of the African economy. African farmers face high cost in getting to market, thanks to high per unit transport costs, a consequence of low population density, poor infrastructure, high maintenance cost and in some cases transport cartels. Market access is more difficult in Africa than any other region of the world. High transport cost result in low farm gates prices, and therefore limited incentive to production.
Local and national markets for agricultural products are also often quite small. industrialisation and diversification of many African economies is still marginal, despite rapid urbanisation, much activities in African cities is informal, marked by lower productivity, underemployment and low wages, with limited demand for food and other Agricultural outputs.
Right from when I was a child, till date ,I hear people saying Africa is a land flowing with mild & honey yet Africans has never felt the impacts. Unfortunately, their dream to return home is painfully held back by deep fears like;
- Fear of political instability. Every Election in Africa is a matter of death and life and with widespread of violence and fear.
- Lack of health insurance. the health system in Africa has completely collapsed, they think of how they will get good health insurance company.
- How to start business in Africa. everything is political in Africa, if you don't have connections, your business could be crushed and closed at anytime by the officials.
- Most Africans are not successful in Europe, they don't have money So with this, they will be ashamed to return to Africa just with their suitcase and clothe.
- Most Africans don't have money to return back to Africa.
- Most Africans have the fears of risk to avoid in buying or renting an apartment.
